How well does home whitening solutions work?
The most effective home whitening products produce
results just as good as those from a dentist. It is
because they use the same high quality peroxide that
dentists use in their office.
The less effective products are still able to whiten
your teeth by one or two shades.
What are the different types of home whitening
solutions?
The are three main types of home teeth whitening
products; brush-on whitening systems, whitening strips
that stick on your teeth, and trays with bleaching
gels.
Brush-on solutions are products where you either
apply a gel directly to your teeth or apply on top of
your tooth paste and tooth brush and brush your teeth
with. They are very easy to use but sometimes not the most
effective. If the formula comes in contact with saliva,
its strength is reduced.
Whitening strips are strips that you peel and attach
to your teeth. While this prevents saliva from coming
into contact with the solution, there are still a few
short comings. Since the teeth is not completely flat,
the strips may not reach and whiten all areas.
Tray solutions uses mouth trays which you apply
bleaching gel to and then put over your teeth. The
products with customizable trays that mold around the
contour of your teeth and include dentist quality gels
are the most effective home teeth whitening solutions.
Little saliva comes into contact with the formula and
the personalize trays ensures that the formula reaches
the different areas of the teeth. This is practically
the same as the process performed by dentists.
How long do the results take?
While results well vary from person to person, with
the fast acting and most effective products, people
usually notice an improvement after a few hours of
bleaching.
Generally when used according to instruction for a
few weeks, many people are able to whiten their teeth by
a couple of shades.
How does teeth whitening systems work?
Almost all teeth whitening products use some form of
peroxide to bleach the teeth. As the peroxide breaks
down, oxygen starts to oxidize the stains on the teeth
into a whiter color. This causes the overall tooth color
to become closer to its natural unstained color without
changing the structure of the teeth.
Are teeth whitening products safe?
Peroxide is both a safe and effective teeth whitening compound. There should not be any problems with
most teeth whitening products.
There are some people that may
experience some temporary tooth sensitivity when using
the products for the first time. However, the feeling
generally lessens or goes away after subsequent uses.
Also, it is recommended that pregnant or nursing women
should not have their teeth bleached.
